Focus!

Our daily routine is dominated by switching in and out of our minds. We get influx of messages and thoughts that are somehow critical to our lives and jobs. We constantly search for information to help solve our daily problems or get our work done. 

Frequent distractions affect productivity. It takes longer to finish a task. We don’t listen as well. We don’t comprehend things well, whether with our partner or with colleagues, and end up in misunderstanding, misinterpretating, and sometimes conflict. It affects memory. We may forget things or can’t recall information promptly, which affects our personal life and professional image.

Dear You, it’s already 45 days into 2024 and you see that you are back to being pushed to a state of having some little worries sometimes over situations, actions and inactions of others? Perhaps you are not, but why are you not addressing certain pertinent issues but rather ignoring, which tends to pile up and well up your emotions over time?

Well, my 2024 word for myself and you is FOCUS! The suns ray does not burn until it is brought to a focus. And we cannot afford not to burn and shine right.

A few things focus helps to achieve: good relationships, improved mindfulness and peace, problem solving and innovation, less distractions, doing more, creativity, wins and successes. 🏆 Now, what is your way of focusing? How do you not look at other things and people to concentrate on what solely matter? Most of us focus, but do we do it a 100%? In under 100%, we are doing great stuff. I can guess the result we will churn out if we do the 100…

In Will Power & Self Discipline, Remez Sasson wrote that concentration is the ability to direct one’s attention following one’s will. Concentration means control of attention. It is the ability to focus the mind on one subject, object, or thought, and at the same time exclude from the mind every other unrelated thought, ideas, feelings, and sensations.

That last part is the tricky part for most of us. To concentrate is to exclude, or not pay attention to, every other unrelated thought, idea, feeling, or sensation. To not pay attention to the actions and inactions but resolving problems and addressing situations.

Kendra Scott, known for her dynamic use of color and genuine materials, her commitment to innovation made her a billion-dollar brand in jewelry and fashion, and she said ; “Focus on what lights a fire inside of you and use that passion to fill a white space. Don’t be afraid of the challenges, the missteps, and the setbacks along the way. What matters is that you keep going.”

In early January, I noticed I was listening to many voices. Unconsciously, those voices were gradually filling my thoughts until I pinched myself to desist from permitting words, and voices from some places occupy my mind. It has been more Peaceful, fulfilling with more focus after. That was when I decided to finally pen down focus even though I had been meaning to write about it sometime back.

The same thing happened to someone I know when theirs was causing them headaches some weeks ago. This is someone who is winning and optimistic. And here we are positive about the year, and how it will turn out. Mindfulness matters! Know when you are going off and not concentrating.

The thing is, it is okay to feel like that sometimes, worried, confused, but don’t stay distracted. We only need to be conscious about not staying in worry. So, here it is: Can you make it a habit of pinching yourself often to be sure you are peaceful and focused?

We achieve so much when there is focus. Our work becomes flawless, and the least effort produces results.

Here are some ways to reduce distractions and achieve focus: get rid of distractions, practice mindfulness and meditation, choose to focus on the moment, take short breaks to refresh, work at your goal daily and develop a healthy routine (quiet time,walks,drinking lot of water, taking veggies, journaling, get more sleep), connect with nature, music or whatever you love that soothes you, rest, recoup and start again.

As a God girl, I have a quotation to share to give comfort that our worries are already waived by God,whoever your God may be should have you on your troubles. Focus is power, distractions, and worry are always a drain and thieves of time. Matthew 6:34 says; “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” It is the thirty-fourth and final verse of the sixth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament.

Unfazed

You won’t believe I was going through my draft and this post accidentally published. I didn’t realise it 😕 and have decided to leave it. It’s been about 72 months already since I wrote this. Yes!✨️ To the story…

Would you wake up in the morning worried about brushing your teeth?

Will you grumble about which breakfast you will prefer other than choose or decide?

Would you be disturbing yourself and depriving yourself of peace over where you have to sleep when you have shelter, a home or a bed?.

This is a rhetoric question.

The world seemed to have been doing fine.

Individuals were going about their daily activities, groups, communities and countries engaged in work.

From religion, to fashion, style, politics, corporate, informal, farming and travels. Then one day, an epidemic in one state turned into a pandemic, which changed the phase of many things and the world.

Did we worry? Yes! A lot of us did.

There were concerns. Also, the relevance to love, family and the need to take good care of ourselves were appreciated more.

We didn’t wake up worrying about a pandemic that hadn’t surfaced. We did when it happened.

What are the daily worries?

Why wake up and worry about things you may not be able to control?

Are you anxious about unforseen circumstances and opportunities?

Instead, why not focus on the blessings of each day and be hopeful for opportunities of today? ✨️

Better to be unfazed about tomorrow than worry about it and life situations.🌟

The universe has a special way of rewarding optimism.😍

Let’s see what Phillipians 4:8 says; Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

The good book talks about worry.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.” Matthew 6:25

Before you think about being worried about anything, do well to think about one more Happy & Positive thing.💜

My Highlight This Christmas

One thing that has brought me joy these past years is putting smiles on the faces of our little ones during the festive season.

You don’t even need to struggle to love on them. The candies, drinks, biscuits, books & pencils get them excited. Watching those beautiful teeth out and wide makes me fulfilled. I love seeing them happy.❤️

Two years ago, our party with them was fun. Food, dance, gifts & face painting. Last year was clothes and gifts.🥳

This I love to do with kids in my neighborhood or random kids I see in key places.

The plan this year was to take food to the street. I have a Team and friends that we love to do this. Aside from my plan to meet up with a few of my Team members over a drink this season, that was a thing that got me excited.

To my story; I saw a man walking with a little girl I didn’t know around my enclave on the 26th December, which was boxing day btw. Felt the need to give the little girl a snack.

I was skeptical, didn’t know them nor where they lived, and nearly wanted to ignore. I’m not sure how some parents may take this random act.

The urge was strong, so after a while, I stopped the man and went for a biscuit and drink for the girl. Intrinsically, I thought the little girl was picking a stroll with her uncle.

Just then, I saw a fruit seller and called her to buy some fruits. It is unusual of me to do that, especially when i do not know the person selling. This is because I have specific places I buy fruits from. This lady was walking with a sister who was also hawking detergents.

Seeing me give the little girl the drink and biscuit, she uttered; ” we also have children oo” in Ga, a local Ghanaian language. I enquired how many her kids are. She mentioned 4.

Her sister also has 3 kids. I couldn’t hide how astonished I was to hear her say 4 kids but she confirmed & gave me comfort that it is a true number. We moved on with me buying the fruits. Then to all 7 kids I do not know & had not seen, gave drinks and biscuits for them.

These were some of the ways the Holy Spirit guided me to put smiles on faces of kids I didn’t know aside my neighbors kids. These little things do swell my heart.💜

I didn’t touch any of the fruit I bought.Amazing, huh! Didn’t have appetite for it. That was how I realised God just wanted me to get to those kids through their moms & not necessarily buy fruits from them.🤗

I love buying drinks & biscuits for kids. The season was no different.

The beauty of the first child’s encounter I realized later was that her mom was kind to me the previous day. The mom sees me two days later & confirms her husband described me as the one who gave their baby the biscuit & drink unbeknownst to me. Then I understood the urge I had.

Our little acts of kindness never goes unrewarded by God. I loved that for the mom.

The Joy in my heart is undeniable.🌟💜

May 2024 be our Absolute best!👌
