We often wait for someone to validate our growth. To tell us the next responsibility, tell us we are ready for the next role and the next level of life. But growth doesn’t work like that. You have to grant yourself the opportunity and permission to become more, first.
Permission to unlearn what no longer serves you.
Permission to learn again like a beginner.
Permission to know when to act and when not to.
Permission to know what to speak and what not.
Permission to step back, so you can step forward better.
Growth is the biggest, most important asset as we live. Whether building a career or a business, even socially with family and friends.
We talk a lot about assets, revenue, portfolios, targets, branding and customer experience. But the real asset is you — Your becoming.
Early on in my career I would focus on work and go all out. I didn’t mind responding and attending to work any time and day. I still do but I use alot more wisdom now. Little did I know at the time that, I was growing, even so doing that differently. The entire work flow was a state of growth. My expertise and the woman I have become is because of periods like that.
What stage of life are you in? Starting as a beginner or starting from experience? No matter your state, whether you are certain or not, grant yourself the permissions to grow. That is the single most impressive and important thing you can do for yourself.
If you are looking forward to progress in your carrer, it requires work. Learning and distinguishing yourself. You need to be able to unlearn and learn such that, there is a peculiar craft or strength subject to you.
I have also seen people do the work and not become deliberate about knowing other people, to talk of building relationships. Sometimes, all you need is a colleague. That voice aside yours to cement your growth. Impressions and perceptions does influence what someone thinks about you or your work, especially in places you may be absent
You may have been new at a job or in a space for weeks now if not months yet there has been no deliberate attempt to know people. What about you, the one who has started an internship or national service? What do you seek to achieve aside your work? There is more to work than the work itself. Grow in people and with people as well. Question is, what value are you providing those voices and people around, aside yourself? This is a rhetoric question.
To me, growth is keeping an open mind, listening more and judging less. Growth is seeking zero validation and knowing how to be by yourself, think for yourself and express yourself without fear or seeking favor even as you work hard. Growth is providing value. Being by yourself doesn’t mean you won’t need people nor not work at knowing others.
In building a career depending on your sector, growth is moving from pushing products or services to providing solutions and value. It is also moving from activity for activity’s sake, to activity that connects, serves, and delivers great outcomes.
Growth is not promotion. It is not titles. Growth doesn’t mean you are in charge but growth is, improving your mind, work, standards and attitude a little better today than you did yesterday.
And here is what I would say to anyone doing corporate life, business or doing life in general; “your growth is not selfish, it is service.”
1.✨️ Be a life long learner.
2. ✨️Work everyday like it is your last day in that business or craft.
3. ✨️Consider impact, value and solution first before anything else like for example “money”.

Once impact and value is involved, the “cash should preceed”, even abundantly. As you seek to give value and have impact, remember to take good care of yourself in the process.
I repeatedly say this; “when one grows, things and people around them also grow and become elevated”.
As a leader, once you grow, your team grows. When you grow, your family gets a better version of you. When you grow, your business and customers get better solutions, not just products.
So if you are halfway through the year, moving either in a fast pace or slow one or even unsure of your movement, thus if there is any at all, this is for you: Keep going and keep moving. Growth happens in this process.
Give yourself permission today to grow at your own pace, but grow intentionally. And give yourself permission to be quiet or loud when you have to move. You will definitely see change, a good turn out and growth.
My gentle nudge to you: Give yourself permission to evolve without apology, outgrow old habits, fears and old room as you go through the workflow and grow.
Remember relationship with your God makes growing worth your while because growing can be challenging and a stretch sometimes. When you feel tired or unsure, you need a God kinda person in the process. It may sometimes be in a form of people who are there to support, guide you and love on you as you grow.
Maya Angelou once said; “do your best you can until you know better. When you know better, you do better.” Growth must be chosen over and over again. Growth is a continuous journey that requires effort, patience, and the courage to embrace change. Give yourself permission to grow daily and watch others and things in your life get equally elevated.
Do you have a growth story or experience to share?
Here’s to building, giving yourself permission to seek peace and pursue purpose at the same time as you grow!🥂
Happy Weekend!💜
